Many of its architectural features have been preserved and add to the charm and character of the space.

The building’s history goes back further. The Oriental Bank built a weatherboard structure in the same location in 1883. This marked the area as a hub for banking. The Dimboola Oriental Bank is notable for being the only bank located between Horsham and South Australia. It also straddled the border. The National Bank of Australasia bought the property in 1884 for PS1,600 and began building the brick two-storey building which would define the architectural landscape of the town. The building cost 3,570 PS and was completed in nine months.

The National Bank was located in this building from 8 August 2002 until its closure. The building was converted into a residence after the bank closed while retaining its historic charm. The vaulted room of the former bank that was used to store valuables has been transformed into a living room and shop for the Dimboola Imaginarium. It is now a magical place filled with a curated selection of quirky and unique gifts sourced around the globe.
